A reader tells me the Macau Mandarin Oriental is playing host to some sort of corporate motivation programme.

It's called 'Velocity Vector: People, Speed and Direction'.

Participants go rock climbing and learn how to use a circus flying trapeze. What fun.

The event's blurb was a bit surprising though.

'Achieve maximum synergy through group alignment,' it begins. So far, so meaningless.

It goes on to say 'experience paradigm sh*t for accelerated personal development'.

Says our reader: 'Nice to see those motivation types calling it for what it is for a change.'

Success secrets: Best Market Analysis of the Week goes to Erwin Tan of Securities 2000.

He was quoted in a Bloomberg report on Pancake House sent in by a reader.

Friday was the firm's Philippine stock market debut, and Pancake House rose 19 per cent.

Here's Mr Tan's in depth analysis: 'They've done well because they're new so people haven't lost money on them yet.'

Ah, if we had a penny for every time we've heard that one.

Newlyweds Des and Kim Quilty read those words in a magazine advert during their honeymoon in India.

The picture shows a man smiling coyly as he unzips his trousers.

Apparently they're giving extra pairs if you get some form of matching number after punching the 'lucky Rivolta machine'.

Says the advert: 'So if you're feeling lucky, rush to a shop near you and indulge yourself twice over.'

Honestly. Lai See  feels this is taking innuendo that bit too far.

We think they should go with something more honest and straightforward.

Perhaps: 'Rivolta her by taking off your trousers.'.
