Updated at 9.35am, Tuesday: Domainpricing.com, China's biggest Internet domain name firm, will hold an auction of 20 top domain names on Thursday. The auction is believed to be the first online auction of top domain names in China, according to domainpricing.com. The names up for sale are a tiny amount of the thousands the firm has registered, Chinese official media reported on Monday. The 20 domain names cover such things as industry, Chinese city names and scenic spots, according to the report. Chinabbs.com, chinajsp.com and chinasofts.com are expected to be popular names in the Chinese IT industry. Feedstuff.com, chinashoes.com and chinafilms.com are some of the other domain names on offer. Sanya.com and xihu.com have been named after two top scenic spots in China. Sanya is a seaside resort in South China's Hainan Province and Xihu is a famous lake in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Starting prices begin at 3,000 yuan (about HK$2,775) for e518.com to 80,000 yuan for chinatest.com, according to domainpricing.com. Zhang Leliang, an official from domainpricing.com, said he was confident the auction would be a success because the firm's parent company, china-channel.com, is a leading name in China, according to the report. China-channel.com claims to be the first Chinese Internet domain name registration firm to be authorized by the International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
