A Sega.com Asia official has taken the unusual step of attending a Skynet news conference announcing an online gaming platform, at which he later denied that the video-game maker had any links to the portal operator.
'As far as I know, Sega has never formed an [online game platform] partnership with any company in Asia,' Winn Hong, vice-president at Sega.com Asia, said after the conference. Sega.com Asia is the locally listed vehicle of Sega.
Last Thursday, Skynet said in a media invitation it would hold a news conference yesterday to announce its 50 per cent-owned Gameplayers.com.hk had teamed up with Sega and Sunevision (Holdings) to introduce an online game platform in Hong Kong.
The invitation said Sega and Sunevision executives would be present to explain the platform.
However But Skynet announced yesterday only that Gameplayers.com had formed a partnership with an unnamed Japanese video-game maker.
It said the companies would introduce an online game platform next month.
Sega.com's Mr Hong did not speak at the news conference.
