While it is important for Sha Lo Tung to be partly zoned into sites of special scientific interest, it is also very important for officials to monitor the zones, as the use of vehicles threatens the precious wetlands in the valley. When I was last in Sha Lo Tung in August, I could see many muddy tracks that had obviously been made by vehicles. I would hope that the Government will send officials to the valley in order to have an investigation and that the administration will be committed to better protection of the valley. Areas like this give tourists and Hong Kong citizens alike a reason for staying in Hong Kong, as it is an area of great natural beauty. It would be very sad to see such scenic places destroyed to make way for development. MARK CHAN Lancaster, England
