On November 17, the Dangerous Dogs Regulation was enacted.

The large dog section of this stipulates 'Any dog over 20kg in weight must be held on a leash not more than two metres in length in a public place.'

On December 2, a Rottweiler on a public path near my home on Lamma killed my small mongrel dog.

The Rottweiler was with its owner; it was not wearing a collar, was not on a lead, nor was it muzzled. Adult male Rottweilers weigh on average 50kg.

My dog, which weighed 6kg at most, was on a lead.

I reported the incident to the police and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) came and took the dog away four days later. It was observed for a week and is now back on Lamma.

It has since come to light that there have been many reports to the police and the AFCD from fearful residents about these dogs, the owner has two Rottweilers, but nothing seems to have been done. These dogs are kept in a yard behind a 1.2-metre gate, which is on castors and they frequently escape. I have photographs of the dogs roaming free to prove it.
