I support the comments made by Christine Loh in her article headlined, 'Authorities blind to the problem of racial discrimination' (South China Morning Post, December 4).
I have had to deal with racial discrimination in Hong Kong.
On four occasions I have entered Hong Kong and only once have I managed to avoid having problems with immigration officers. This is because I am from Burma.
I am sure that some readers must remember the incident in 1993 when management in a luxury apartment complex put up a sign, in the main lift, in Chinese and Tagalog, asking maids to use the service lift. The sign was placed beneath another sign indicating dogs were not allowed in the lift.
And who can forget the case of the mainland girl who was wrongfully jailed for four months after it was suspected she was travelling on a false passport which turned out to be genuine?
I have never heard of Caucasians in Hong Kong having similar problems.
