Given my experiences in Hong Kong over the past 37 years, I have been shocked to learn through letters and reports which have appeared in the South China Morning Post, that a 'colour bar' still exists here, despite all the changes that have taken place.

The present administration should take steps to eradicate this discrimination and educate the public.

The Government should learn from countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, where different races have learned to co-exist.

Regarding the case of the ethnic Indian lawyer Harinder Veriah who told her husband before her death in a Hong Kong hospital, that she was made to feel that she was 'at the bottom of the pile', I believe she would not have been treated in this way in a hospital in the mainland.

Wake up Hong Kong, cure yourself of this problem and consign the colour bar to the bottom of the pile in the SAR.
