I refer to the letter by Geraldine Broadgate headlined, 'Pushed and shoved by wave of fanatics' (South China Morning Post, December 26), about the problems she has experienced on the MTR.
I have to agree with your reader. The same thing happened to me when I made the 'mistake' of trying to get off the MTR last month at Admiralty.
I was only able to get off because I'm 104 kilograms and a former college football tackler in the US. If I were smaller I would never have been able to 'tackle' my way through the mob.
I often travel to Tokyo where the MTR is just as crowded, however the commuters there are civilised.
They wait at either side of the door to let people exit before getting on the train. Even at 8.30am.
Perhaps as a newly-listed public company the MTR might be interested in knowing its refusal to deal with this problem is hitting it and its shareholders in their wallets.
