In Hong Kong

1961: A man was killed and three others were injured when a boiler in the engine room of the Japanese trawler Senkai Maru exploded while the vessel was berthed near Kellet Island.

1965: Mok Sau, a Mandarin actress with Shaw Brothers, was attacked by a youth after getting out of a lift in Tsim Sha Tsui. She suffered head injuries and was robbed of $200.

1967: Preventive Services raided an illegal still in a wooded area in Clear Water Bay. Raids in the past three months yielded 34,500 gallons of mash and 1,014 gallons of Chinese wine.

1985: British Cabinet records just released revealed former prime minister Sir Winston Churchill made a secret decision in 1954 to abandon the defence of Hong Kong. This meant for the past 30 years the colony had only minimal defence against invasion.
