Former DAB legislator Gary Cheng Kai-nam was arrested by the ICAC, sources close to the anti-corruption body said last night. Mr Cheng, 50, was released on bail after being questioned in connection with the scandal that forced his resignation last year, the sources said.
Mr Cheng, the former vice-chairman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong, quit the legislature in September after a series of newspaper reports on his business links.
The scandal broke during campaigning for the Legco election. Under electoral rules, Mr Cheng could not resign until after the poll, in which he was elected. A by-election was held last month for his vacant seat on Hong Kong Island. It was won by non-affiliated, pro-democracy barrister Audrey Eu Yuet-mee.
Mr Cheng and the ICAC refused to comment last night.
