John McCafferty argues (South China Morning Post, January 11), in reply to Caroline Nelson's letter (Post, January 9), that the majority of dog owners are responsible.
Well Mr McCafferty, the majority is not enough.
I suggest that Mr McCafferty takes a walk up the steps linking Macdonnell and Bowen roads and sees for himself the putrid state of affairs there.
I've lived in the area for a year and every morning have to watch that I do not step on fresh dog excrement.
However, coming home at night, it is always difficult to miss stepping on such excrement and making a mess of one's shoes. That is why the steps are also stained with crushed dog excrement, which remain ugly blotches on the concrete. As a dog lover, I would like to say that the animals themselves are not at fault for this atrocious state of affairs.
The blame lies squarely with owners and their insufficiently-trained maids who do most of the dog walking.
