Hong Kong's biggest public transport operator is entering two teams for the Eighth Green Power Hike as part of its commitment to environmental initiatives in the SAR.
The Kowloon Motor Bus teams will join in a 50-kilometre walk from The Peak, and a 25-km hike from Tai Tam Country Park - both finishing at Big Wave Bay, near Shek O. Last year, 3,700 people from all walks of life took part. 'We are working out two line-ups for the big walk on March 17,' said media relations manager Adelaide Wong.
KMB provides transport services to about three million passengers every day. The company has implemented a number of measures to make for a cleaner Hong Kong.
KMB has been supporting green initiatives, and will keep searching for practical solutions to create a cleaner, quieter Hong Kong, Ms Wong said.
Its contributions so far have included introducing in 1992, the environmentally-friendly bus engine Euro I. And since 1996 all new buses have been equipped with the latest Euro II engine. About 2,200 buses are powered by 'green' engines.
From 1997, low sulphur diesel fuel with 0.05 per cent sulphur content has been used in all buses, and in August last year the bus company started using an ultra-friendly diesel fuel with only 0.005 per cent sulphur content.
