A QUICK call to the Philippine consulate yesterday confirmed that what the promoters are billing as a hot date at the Coliseum isn't far from the truth. Gary Valenciano, or Gary V, as he is known to his devoted Filipino fans, is going to have them swooning in the aisles. The young singer, composer, actor, musician and arranger was described as a matinee idol by a consul staff member, who added there was no way that she would miss the concert herself. Gary is considered a ''live wire'' on stage because of his action-packed performance. But, as a born-again Christian, he also mixes religion with the razzmatazz. Joining him on this tour is a female singer Regine Velasquez, otherwise known in the Philippines as ''the lady with the golden voice''. ''Both are very popular in the Philippines, especially in concert,'' said our source. Which probably explains why the promoters and publicists have been inundated with calls from Hongkong's domestic helpers desperate for concert details. Valenciano has recorded 11 albums, two of which scored double platinum sales and the rest went gold. He has won his matinee idol tag from making just as many movies and popping up on TV. He has also been signed to big corporations, such as Sony and Coca-Cola, to front commercials. Regine is famed for her stunning voice. The legend which goes with that is almost folklore, even though she's only 22 years old. It goes like this: Regine's father knew his daughter was a natural, but couldn't afford to give her singing lessons. So, he would take her to the beach to sing while the waves were pushing against her chest, giving her the strength of a trained professional. Gary's concert at the Hongkong Coliseum is on Sunday, June 27. Tickets are $75, $150, $250 and $350, available through URBTIX.
