1964: Hong Kong singer Kong Ling married Henry Lim, headmaster of the Tak Yan School, in a ceremony at St Teresa's Church. In England, well-known actors Bai Kwang and Chan Yang were granted British citizenship.

1967: Top British comedian Tony Hancock, star of the television programme Hancock's Half Hour , arrived for three weeks of nightclub engagements in Hong Kong.

1975: The Hong Kong dollar was one of the strongest currencies in the world, said foreign exchange expert Rudi Weisweiller.

1985: British trade unions blasted Marks & Spencers for selling imports of Hong Kong knitwear. It was a big break from the department store's 'Buy British' policy. The knitted tops, which sell for GBP20, would have sold for GBP60 if made in Britain.
