Lots of local celebrities will be perusing their credit card statements with more care after TVB veteran actress and talk-show host, Nancy Sit Kar-yin, revealed that unscrupulous parties had racked up more than HK$100,000 worth of bills in the US on her gold credit card. The actress, who enjoyed a comeback with the long-running series A Kindred Spirit, usually settled her credit card bills through auto-pay arrangements and only discovered the discrepancies in her October and November bills recently. Since Sit could prove she was not in the US during the time the charges were made (the biggest for a HK$40,000 purchase) she managed to get a quick refund from the issuing bank. 'Since visiting the US last June, I have not been back there at all,' said Sit. 'When I reported the discrepancies to the bank, they initially asked me if my children had been using supplementary cards. When I told them no, they immediately suspected that my card had been counterfeited.' No sooner had the bank cancelled the card when another charge of more than HK$10,000 was made on the card in the US. The culprits have not been found but it is suspected that the counterfeit card had been made with stolen personal details.
