ICAC swoops on 64

Sixty-four people have been arrested by the ICAC in connection with involvement in a suspected racket to cheat banks out of $50 million in mortgage loans. Independent Commission Against Corruption officers arrested 49 people yesterday, and 15 earlier. All those held are buyers of 80 village houses in the New Territories and were taken in as part of a probe into an alleged scam to inflate the value of properties. A female ICAC officer was slightly injured when a woman resisted arrest.
