Singer-actor Edison Chen Koon-hei is not only winning screaming teenage girls over but also the gay community of Hong Kong. The young star, who made his big-screen debut on Gen-Y Cops, has been voted best lesbian/gay icon by members of local gay Web site http: www.gaystation.com.hk . Chen (right) came top with 21 per cent of the votes. Second was popular singer Sandy Lam Yik-leen, a long-time favourite with the gay crowd, with 18 per cent of the votes. Lam, a former DJ, moved to Taiwan several years ago after marrying songwriter-singer Jonathan Li Zhongchen. Third, with only eight per cent of the votes, was singer-songwriter Wang Lee Hom, currently making headlines because of a rumoured romance with local supermodel Rosemary Vandenbroucke. Others in the top 10 were singer Faye Wong, singer Anthony Wong Yiu-ming, actor Daniel Wu, singer Sammi Cheng Sau-man, singer-actor Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing, TVB actor Louis Ku Tin-lok, and Japanese-Taiwanese star Takeshi Kaneshiro. Also contested on the Web site were the best lesbian/gay movies: Trick, a comedy about two gay men trying to find a place in Manhattan for a tryst; Thai movie The Iron Ladies, about a transvestite volleyball team; and the Matt Damon thriller The Talented Mr Ripley.
