Turbulent flight for media man

Robert Chua Wah-peng has found another nemesis.

First, the ETV founder waged war on smut with his wholesome family-values programming.

Then he took on big US business by devising a system for navigating the net using phone numbers (a couple of US firms are also claiming credit for the concept).

And now our media mogul is squaring off against a new enemy: United Airlines.

It seems there was a bit of a mix-up with Mr Chua's shuttle flight from San Francisco to Las Vegas.

No big shock there. A recent study of the US's 10 largest carriers concluded that United Airlines offers the worst service in the skies.

And when things go wrong, their staff can get snippy.

On January 20, Mr Chua approached first class check-in to claim his seat. He was informed that he couldn't have it. His flight had been booked for February 20.

'They dare say that I should have noticed the error myself,' a fuming Mr Chua told Lai See.

The ousted passenger pointed out that the return portion of his flight had been confirmed for January 25. Didn't United find it a little odd that he was leaving a month before he arrived?

'Can they now travel through a time tunnel?' he snapped.

And that was back when he was still relatively relaxed.

Before the carrier lost his suitcase.

Needless to say, the airline passenger flew into a rage.

Licence to spill: Former Police Superintendent Yakub Khan is hosting a competition.

If you haven't heard of him, he's been waging a one-man war against the Government ever since he lost his job more than 30 years ago.

Anyway, first prize in this contest is either a curry lunch or dinner 'with British wines'. We assume that second one is some sort of threat.

To win, entrants must provide the correct answer to the following question: 'Who is more handsome: Britain's 007 or Hong Kong's 007?'.

Photos are provided as clues.

There's a recent picture of an elderly Sir Sean Connery, along with a rundown of his credentials 'Spent years acting in movies with respect, fighting bogus criminals like'.

Next to that is a picture of the man Yakub Khan has dubbed 'Hong Kong 007'. As coincidence would have it, that man is Yakub Khan. The former top cop's picture shows him looking all mustachioed and intense. Also young. That photo is about 40 years out of date.

The text beside it tells us that 'Hong Kong's 007 fought a lone battle for justice, real-life fight against a government for over 31 years. Supt. Khan exposed guilty criminals inside and outside government, implicating from Thatcher to Major to Patten to Chan to Ip to Tsang and a long list that are still fugitives from justice.'

But Hong Kong 007's biggest enemy is Tung Chee-hwa - also known as 'Dr Yes'.

Well. That's what they call him in Beijing anyway.

Toon troubles: Lai See recently told readers that Dilbert creator Scott Adams was about to guest edit a Top Five list. Now that his celebrity stint is over, we thought we'd pass along our favourite 'Top Comic Strip Character Pet Peeves':

Try as you might to swear, all that comes out is a string of unintelligible symbols.

Even two-dimensional women are always asking 'Do I look fat?'.

Mental health benefits limited to consultation with 'Dr' Van Pelt.

Speech balloons don't fit into overhead compartments on planes.

The beer is always flat.

'Hair' that's really just a jagged extension of your head and is a nightmare to comb.
