Anti-graft officers have arrested 20 people - including a bus driver - after uncovering a syndicate that allegedly has sold at least 300 fake New World First Bus travel passes since 1999.
The fake passes, which were valid for one year, were sold for between $800 and $1,800 each, the Independent Commission Against Corruption said yesterday.
They allegedly showed that their respective holders were bus company staff or relatives entitled to free rides.
The investigation began after a complaint was received that some employees of the bus company were involved in issuing fake bus passes.
The 20 people - 14 men and six women - included the alleged mastermind of the syndicate and a New World First Bus driver.
They were picked up in an operation codenamed 'Curtain Swing', which began last week. Fifty-six fake travel passes were seized. 'The driver was alleged to have provided the syndicate with a sample dependant travel pass to facilitate the forging of bus passes in return for monetary reward,' the ICAC said.
