Principals are in full voice as they rehearse for this year's 'Respect Our Teachers' award ceremony, to be held later this month. Top educators nominated by parents, students or schools will receive certificates at the ceremony.
The event will conclude the annual campaign organised by the Education Department to boost teacher morale and raise the image of teachers among parents and students. The campaign has also included card design, essay-writing contests and a speech festival.
This year 1,622 teachers from kindergarten, and special needs, primary and secondary schools are on the list to receive certificates, an increase of 100 over the previous year. Louisa Lau Lai-yi, the Education Department's education officer, said this reflected growing awareness among parents and students of the need to show respect to their teachers. The 'Salute to Teachers 2001 - Commendation Certificate Presentation Ceremony' will take place on February 20 at the City Hall. Eighty principals will sing at the event while 30 students from King's College will perform Chinese music as accompaniment to the singing performance.
