Chen Zhaobin, a key figure in the listing of China Mobile (Hong Kong), has been appointed president and executive director of APT Satellite Holdings. APT, Asia's leading satellite transponder service provider, is 16 per cent controlled by China's soon to be launched satellite telecommunications operator ChinaSat, a result of Beijing's move to break up China Telecom's monopoly. APT, listed both in Hong Kong and New York, operates three in-orbit geostationary satellites. Mr Chen, until 1999 vice-chairman of China Mobile (Hong Kong), became vice-chairman of ChinaSat - China Telecommunications Broadcast Satellite. In an announcement yesterday, APT said Mr Chen, also appointed the firm's executive director, was replacing retiring He Kerang in charge of overall management. Mr He continues as vice-chairman. Other appointments include Cui Xinzheng as executive director and Wu Jinfeng as non-executive director.
