New events and programmes helped to make Kowloon Sam Yuk Secondary School's Sports Day more fun and exciting this year.
The two-day event, held at Sham Shui Po Sports Ground, was divided into semi-finals on the first day and finals on the second. A tug-of-war contest between parents and teachers helped to set the stage for a day of fun and competition.
Aside from the normal track and field events, this year the school introduced two new events - the boys' 3,000 m and girls' 1,500 m races.
Seventh form student Wong Chi-kong, who participated in 1,500 m (individual) and 3,000 m (class) categories, said the response was overwhelming because it was the first time the long-distance had been run.
He said everyone had expecially enjoyed seeing parents and teachers taking part in events that had been organised for them.
'It's very rare to see teachers in sports wear,' he said. 'They're very serious in class, and we never imagined they could be that energetic on the sports ground. Likewise, we seldom see parents play.'
