American pop diva Jennifer Lopez, who is on an Asia-wide promotion tour, jetted into Hong Kong yesterday but left autograph-hunting fans disappointed. About a dozen fans gathered at Chek Lap Kok to hold out magazines for signing, but the Latin music superstar was led out of the airport by a team of bodyguards and whisked away in a limousine. Lopez is in the territory for three days to promote her new album, J. Lo. She will leave for Australia tomorrow before returning to the US. She will hold media interviews at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Wan Chai, but no official appearances have been planned, according to her record company. Secondary Five students Fion Lo, 17, and Polly Cheung, 16, were among the fans at the airport. 'Despite the tight security, we still managed to give her a box of chocolates and a card welcoming her to Hong Kong. We hope she will play a concert here soon,' said Ms Lo. Early this month, Lopez achieved the rare feat of topping both the US Billboard album charts and the movie box-office charts in the same week. J.Lo sold more than 272,000 copies in the US in its first week, while her romantic comedy, The Wedding Planner, grossed more than US$14 million (HK$108 million) in its debut week. The actress and singer was to visit the SAR last year but the trip was cancelled after Lopez and former boyfriend, rapper Sean 'Puffy' Combs, were allegedly involved in a shooting incident outside a New York nightclub. The couple announced last week they had ended their relationship. Combs is on trial on weapons and bribery charges.
