The Hong Kong Computer Society has been helping out our Government.

They just sent a letter of advice to the Security Bureau.

It's entitled 'Comments on Inter-departmental Working Group on Computer-Related Crime Report'.

Overall, the IT gang is pretty pleased with our administration's efforts.

But there is one slight problem.

They had a question about a new cyber-law enforcement body.

'Is it really a team of pirates aimed against the Internet?' asked the society.

Sounds like the Government might want to rethink the name of their 'Anti-Internet Piracy Team'.

High and dry: Lai See  is fascinated by the Asian Machine Rowing Championships and the Hong Kong Open Indoor Rowing Championships.

Competitors battled it out over the weekend.

Pooh-poohing the water that surrounds our little island, participants chose to compete in a nice dry indoor environment.

Representatives of various Asian countries sweated and flexed on a bunch of those machines like the ones at Lai See's  gym.

They don't actually move, but the computer keeps track of the progress you would have made if you were actually rowing instead of just sliding your butt up and down on a plastic seat.

We suppose holding it indoors does eliminate problems like weather, air pollution and capsized vessels.

But Lai See  thinks it's a slippery slope. Next thing you know, they'll be holding the MacLehose Trail race on the treadmills of California Fitness.

Letter tip glitch: Some mysterious lettering has appeared on the road at Happy Valley racecourse track.

Above the word 'North Point' drivers are aimed towards 'Certral'.

Clearly something has gone awry here.

A reader suggests they just kill the first four letters and re-paint them later.

It's about time that race track had a dead cert.

Odd parade: Lai See  just dropped in on Stockmartnet.com.

Normally the site is a parade of facts and figures for marketeers.

But yesterday we were taken aback by an event listed in their Project Report section.

It enticed visitors with news of a 'gland opening'.

Lai See  likes to think of herself as open-minded, but we really think this sort of thing should be promoted on an adult site.

Figure it out: Lai See  is worried about Singapore. Oh sure, they're putting on a brave front, trying to pretend everything's OK.

But really they must be in shock.

We would be too if our GDP shrank 1,000 times in the space of a year.

Word of this economic disaster was published in booklets entitled 'Contact Singapore-Business'.

Envoys of the city-state are doling them out in Wan Chai as part of an E-Life display in Central Plaza.

And there it is, in black and white. In 1998, Singapore's GDP was US$84.5 billion. By 1999, it was said to have plummeted to US$84.5 million.

Shocking. Lai See  feels foolish for not learning of this sooner.

We just assumed everyone was referring to the financial penalties imposed on gum-chewers, pigeon feeders and the like when they said Singaporeans are in a fine state.
