Lai See  has been standing up for Hong Kong brokers.

We just told British money men that our lot could beat their lot any day.

And it wasn't just bravado either. We really believe it.

There are no brokers hungrier than Hong Kong's - and none more skilled in making the really tough bets.

That's what we told the London crew, and they challenged us to take them on.

So all we need is two contestants and some Chicken McNuggets.

Did we forget to mention this is about chicken consumption?

A former Hong Kong banker told us about it after winning GBP10 on a spread bet. Apparently this is a regular event, with Cantor Fitzgerald and Garban Intercapital among the brokerages involved. Once the gauntlet has been thrown down, dozens of money men place bets on how many McNuggets the two challengers can eat in the space of one hour.

'It happens whenever people get bored,' said our source. 'Like on a US holiday.'

Which explains why last Monday marked the latest round.

How many McNuggets did the contenders get through, Lai See  asked. Four hundred? Five hundred? Nope. A mere 32 each.

Lai See  scoffed and vowed to out-do them. Then she remembered that she's vegetarian and on a diet.

But the London city folk said they're more than happy to accept a Hong Kong challenge.

Fabulous. Another great moment in sport for the SAR.

But our contact warned that would-be participants would have to adhere to strict rules. Well. One.

'If you throw up, that would be a score of zero.'

Fair enough. And what do the winners get for fending off vomit and eating their way to a broker McNugget gorging record?

'Nothing. They just do it for the glory.'

Bad timing: Lai See  has been following the tale of the Japanese trawler and the US submarine. It really was a tragedy.

Still, there is one bright side. At least it didn't upset the prime minister's golf game.

But Japanese citizens are upset, and rightfully so. Which is why Nippon Television made an 11th hour decision to pull a film it was planning to air. The reason: some of the scenes bore an uncanny resemblance to the events leading to the tragedy.

Lai See  assumed that the film in question must be The Poseidon Adventure. Or perhaps The Titanic.

Wrong. But it does show a fleet of Japanese fishing boats coming under attack. The identity of the force that destroys them speaks volumes about the way the Japanese perceive Americans. The name of that too-realistic film is Godzilla.

Amazing gadget: Lai See  feels it's important to stay on the cutting edge of technology.

That's why we've been reading up on the Orgasmatron.

True, it's not called that yet. But we're sure it will be.

Someone has invented a tiny gadget that gives women an instant orgasm at the touch of a button, New Scientist  magazine tells us.

A generator is connected to electrodes in the spine. When a TV-style remote control is pressed, nerves are stimulated to trigger sexual ecstasy.

Surgeon Stuart Meloy discovered it accidentally while implanting pain-blocking electrodes in a female patient's spine.

The result: 'She suddenly started exclaiming emphatically.'

We're told the device could be on sale as early as next year.

It will replace an older, less efficient model which will become obsolete. Lai See  calls that one the Man 2001.
