Cathay jet forced to abort landing in Jakarta

A Cathay Pacific Airbus 340 jet with 87 passengers on board was forced to abort its landing at Jakarta airport because of a malfunction in the landing gear, airline staff said yesterday.

Flight CX777 from Hong Kong circled for about an hour to use up fuel and then landed safely on its second attempt after the pilot engaged a back-up system, the airline said.
