Latin pop diva Jennifer Lopez has been on a flying visit to Hong Kong to promote her latest album. Lopez met her fans and the regional media at a press conference last Monday. Hong Kong was the second leg of her global tour to promote her new album, J. Lo, which became a smash hit in the United States in the first week of its release. With the release of her new film The Wedding Planner, Lopez has become the first female singer ever to claim the top spot at both the box office and on the Billboard Hot 100 in the same week. After a special welcoming ceremony featuring a brief Peking opera performance, Lopez was presented with a delicate statue of the Buddha by Sony Music as a token of their appreciation. At the press conference fans and the media were able to watch an exclusive behind-the- scenes documentary on the making of the video for her latest song, Love Don't Cost A Thing. 'Thank you very much. It's my first ever visit to Hong Kong. It is a very fascinating and vibrant city and I would like to thank my lovely fans here for their support,' she said. J. Lo was produced by Ric Wake, a renowned Grammy- winning producer who has also worked with Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. Like Lopez's debut album, On the 6, which has sold over six million, J. Lo is a hybrid of pop, Latin, R & B and hip-hop. The theme song, Love Don't Cost A Thing, has become the hottest single in her country since it was first released last December. Lopez said: 'All the songs on the album are about love and relationships. Love is a big inspiration in my singing, in my acting, and in my dancing. It's about things I've gone through and things I saw my friends go through.' Natalie Law Hoi-ching, 18, who won a ticket to the press conference from the Young Post, said: 'Jennifer Lopez is a multi-talented artiste. She is absolutely beautiful. She sings well, dances well and she is also a very good actress. 'I first started to take an interest in her when I saw the video for If You Had My Love. Her performance made a deep impression on me. Most of her songs are great dance numbers. Seldom do we see such a versatile all-round artists like her.'
