I refer to the letter from your correspondent, M. W. Ma, headlined, 'Working pensioner entitled to exemption' (South China Morning Post, February 22).
We have explained to your correspondent, in three earlier letters, that under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance, a self-employed person between the age of 18 and 65 has to enrol in a registered scheme and make contributions based on his/her relevant income derived from self-employment. This is regardless of whether the person is already an exempt person as a pensioner under the Pensions Ordinance.
The views of your correspondent have been recorded for reference for future policy review.
