Although the ad:hoc chain of stores stocks a host of trendy fashion labels, general manager Leo Yeung says he's not a big brand-name buyer. However, he does have a few favourite labels which he remains faithful to. 'One of my favourite brands is Costume National. It's easy to wear and you can have a lot of fun playing around with it. Designers like Gucci are just too seasonal and with Costume National there are no seasonal restrictions. I prefer the Causeway Bay outlet [209 Lee Gardens, Hysan Avenue. Tel: 2907 2180] as there's a wider selection than the Central branch. 'I often go to Stanley Market to pick up cheap T-shirts which are great for casual wear under a leather jacket. I never spend more than $100 on one. Last time I bought a college T-shirt with 'Stanford University' on the front and I cut the sleeves and neck-line to make it more fun. Sometimes I even sew things on to T-shirts to make them more original. 'The Beverley Commercial Centre [87-105 Chatham Road, Tsim Sha Tsui] has been a regular haunt of mine for years. You've got to go with an open mind and you never know what you might come out with. There are a couple of shops that usually have something unique which I can't resist. VOX [1/F, Shop 22-23. Tel: 2723 4636], for instance, is excellent for shoes and the styles are always original. 'Shin & Company [available at ad:hoc, G/F, 38 Russell Street, Causeway Bay. Tel: 2970 2033] sells great Japanese-style T-shirts. The styles are fresh, most with plastic printing over them, and it also sells lots of gimmicky things like ash-trays which make good gifts. 'Work often takes me to China. Shenzhen is great for all the fake Prada, but it's a better shopping option for women than men. If I'm in Guangzhou, I go to G-Star, which has great jeans and pants for casual wear. I usually go to the outlet in the Tin Ho Shopping Plaza close to the Guangzhou train station. Prices are about 30 per cent less than in Hong Kong. 'When I'm in Paris I go to the multi-brand name store Kiliwatch [62/64 rue Tiquetonne, 75002, Paris. Tel: 331 4221 1737, www.kiliwatch.tm.fr ]. I always head straight for the vintage T-shirts and I like the Nike running shoes there, as it carries a more fashionable range than you usually see. It also has a good range of Puma and the stock changes every three or four months. 'Work takes me to Italy about twice a year and I always make a trip to Via Spiga, a street in Milan. It's great for bags and a lot of designer labels are there. Some might be last season's designs, but they're about 25 per cent cheaper than in Hong Kong. 'I tend to hit my credit card hard when I'm in the US - the clothes over there are so much trendier than here. Rola [Union Square, San Francisco] is another multi-brand store. I love it. You can get everything there - jeans, leather jackets, shoes. It carries the exclusive Levi Red Line, as well as Paul & Joe and the Roxy line for women.'
