Updated at 7.10pm: Requirements for those wishing to run for Chief Executive next year will be laid out in the Chief Executive Election Bill to be published on Friday.
The Bill suggests that the 800 member Election Committee, formed on 14 July 2000 be responsible for electing the Chief Executive next year, a press statement said on Thursday.
"[The Bill] provides for when and how a Chief Executive election is to be held as well as who is eligible to run and to vote at the Chief Executive election," a Constitutional Affairs Bureau spokesman said.
"It also sets out the steps for lodging election petitions and judicial reviews which challenge whether the Chief Executive-elect is duly elected," the spokesman added.
According to the Bill, candidates must be Chinese citizens over 40 years of age who have lived in Hong Kong for over 20 years and hold no other country's citizenship.
The candidate cannot be judicial officers or prescribed public officers, be bankrupt or mentally disordered, or have committed any criminal offences.
