A British businessman whose general manager was viciously murdered and then dumped in the company's Tai Wai offices last year told the Sunday Morning Post that he was terrified the killers might come after him.

Both Alan Crawley and police investigating the murder of Constant Li Chi-fai, 38 - who was found gagged, blindfolded and bound with his throat slit - believe the killing may have been linked to shady business deals the dead man had going on the mainland.

Mr Crawley decided to speak out in the hope that it would put pressure on the mainland authorities and Hong Kong officials to solve the case. He also wanted to warn the public of the dangers involved in doing business on the mainland after security advisers told him that the killers may have left the body in the office as a warning. He says the killing has left him 'absolutely terrified'.

'He [Li] must have known the person . . . you can't get in without a code or card. I go down the street and keep looking at people and think, 'Is he following me?'. If I stay late I think, 'Is that knock at the door someone coming to murder me?' '

He said three of his staff - including the secretary who found the body in the office on December 7 last year - had resigned in the wake of the killing.

Mr Crawley's firm, Pacific Ores Metals and Chemicals Ltd, has also moved to new offices.
