Twenty people were arrested for allegedly laundering money for human smuggling syndicates during an island-wide operation by Hong Kong and Australian police.

Officers from the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau conducted 19 raids at different Hong Kong locations, police revealed on Monday.

A spokesman said: ''As a result 13 women and seven men were arrested and have been detained overnight at the police headquarters in Wanchai.''

The operation is continuing.
