The SAR is to establish centres in Guangdong to give induction courses for mainlanders planning to settle in Hong Kong.
Director of Social Welfare Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said four centres, funded by her department, would be set up in four Guangdong cities.
A voluntary agency will be hired to help manage the centres.
The induction courses will be offered to familiarise migrants with the lifestyle in Hong Kong before they arrive.
Legislator Chan Yuen-han, of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong, welcomed the move, saying it was important to let mainlanders know what Hong Kong was like and what they should expect.
'Many family problems are due to poverty. . . and many new migrants are poor families and they need special help,' Ms Chan said.
