A 29-YEAR-OLD police constable charged with murdering his common-law wife and trying to murder her brother's girlfriend yesterday appeared in San Po Kong Court. The court heard that Chong Yan-yuk murdered Leung Mei-kee, 27, in a Wong Tai Sin apartment on Saturday. It was alleged that he attempted to cover up the crime by ransacking the flat to make it appear that a burglary had taken place. Appearing for the Crown, Chief Inspector Glyn Davies said Chong had tried to murder Leung's brother's girlfriend, Yuen Suk-wah, 31, who had been staying in the flat at King Shan Court. Ms Yuen was yesterday in a stable condition in hospital after surgery. No plea was taken from Chong, who was arrested at the flat on Saturday. Magistrate Anthony To adjourned the case until July 6, pending legal advice, and remanded Chong in jail custody.
