A survey on what motivates men and women in Hong Kong to have sex has found that the most obvious reason - to have babies - is by far the least popular.

In the multiple-answer survey, lust was cited by 75 per cent of men surveyed in a recent Asia Market Intelligence (AMI) study as a reason for having sex, compared to 36 per cent who cited love and 29 per cent pleasure. None said for conception.

Women overwhelmingly said they had intercourse for love (66 per cent), while 34 per cent were motivated by lust. Only 10 per cent said they had sex for pleasure and only four per cent were aiming to conceive.

More than half those surveyed had sex one to three times a week, while seven per cent only had intercourse every six months or more. The most popular places for intimacy are at home (88 per cent), a hotel (42 per cent), a love hotel (26 per cent), or a friend's home (26 per cent). None had had sex in a plane, while three per cent had made love in an office, five per cent in a park, five per cent on a beach and eight per cent in a car.

Women were found to be open-minded about homosexuals, with 60 per cent saying they accepted homosexuality, compared to only 36 per cent of men.

More than 35 per cent of men bought pornographic magazines, 31 per cent bought pornographic movies and 35 per cent had surfed the Web for pornographic sites in the past three months. While 83 per cent of women said they had bought none of the above, one in 10 had purchased a pornographic magazine.
