1959: A 22-year-old weaver stabbed one of his roommates because he made sipping noises while drinking water, a Victoria District court heard. Cheung Kun-kui of Sun Shan Road was charged with wounding with intent.
1964: Hsieh Yung-yo became the first golfer to retain the Hong Kong Open Championship when he beat Alan Murray of Australia in the fourth hole of a sudden-death play-off. The Taiwan native had come from five strokes back at the start of the final round.
1966: Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough and Candice Bergen arrived at Kai Tak for location shooting on the film Sand Pebbles. The film was directed by Robert Wise, who had directed The Sound Of Music.
1968: The HMS Eagle, Britain's largest aircraft carrier, fired an 11-gun salute as it entered Victoria Harbour from Singapore.
