To try to make headway in Asia's nascent storage market, Quantum Corporation, subsidiary Quantum ATL, and Computer Associates said they are teaming up to make it as easy as possible for companies to use their 'plug-and-play' solutions for storage needs.

'We find that working together is more beneficial for the customer, as well as for us,' said Quantum's business development manager, Asia-Pacific, Louis Lye. 'We find that a lot of companies and MIS managers here are not that IT-knowledgeable to integrate solutions.'

Quantum and its subsidiary Quantum ATL make computer disk drives, storage solutions and automated tape libraries for enterprise network applications, while Computer Associates creates software that enables electronic commerce.

'When we present to them a package like this, they can just buy the package, fit it in and voila! It works,' said Mr Lye.

Singling out the Asia-Pacific region as a growth area, Quantum ATL recently reorganised its sales activities to focus on three main areas: Asia, Japan and Australia/New Zealand, which collectively contribute about US$30 million to the Quantum's revenues every year.

'China is a very important market,' said Quantum ATL's managing director in Asia, Dennis Li. 'Previously we had a Greater China manager based in Taiwan, who supports the whole region, but now, we have a country manager based in each territory ? Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.'
