Portal Software on Tuesday unveiled an advanced version of its flagship Infranet product designed to handle customer management and billing for next-generation wireless communications services.
The new Infranet Wireless product line is geared for the so-called 2.5G and third-generation (3G) wireless communications networks, which allow for high-speed data transmission and Internet access services via Web-enabled mobile phones and palmtop computers.
Part of this new wireless customer management and billing platform is Infranet 6.1, which offers optional modules for network operators to support general packet radio services (GPRS), wireless application protocol (WAP) and short message services (SMS).
'The complexity of emerging 2.5G and 3G technologies, combined with steep licence costs and intense competition, makes it critical for service providers to quickly develop business models that go far beyond flat-rate, homogeneous pricing plans,' said Robert Lau, vice-president of Portal Software Asia-Pacific.
'The Infranet Wireless product line will enable service providers to roll out innovative business models for wireless voice, data and content services in immediate response to market conditions and emerging technologies.'
He said advances made on the Infranet platform were based on Portal's experience in supporting some of the most aggressive service providers now rolling out wireless broadband Internet and other advanced communications services.
