Last updated at 6.14pm: A 30-year-old man arrested in connection with the killing of constable Leung Shing-yan walked free from the police headquarters in Wan Chai on Wednesday after two days in custody.
Police said the man was released unconditionally after being questioned by officers over the murder inquiry for more than 40 hours.
''We cannot say that he is unrelated to the case but at the moment no charges are being laid,'' a spokeswoman said.
The murder case is still being investigated by officers from Organised Crime and Triad Bureau. Police are still searching for the missing police revolver and a speed loader with six rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was a loanshark operating in the Lei Muk Shue area and was also an active triad member in the district, police sources said.
He was among six men in a car intercepted on Monday by Organised Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) officers at Shek Wai Kok Estate, Tsuen Wan, where Leung was shot dead 13 days ago. Three, including the man helping the murder inquiry, were seized in a silver Honda Accord and the other three were arrested at a nearby playground.
