Established six months ago, Signal Spreader, a new record label, wants to promote Hong Kong's band sounds - and it's the first company to make our indie music scene a priority. 'The Hong Kong market lacks local band sounds,' says Signal Spreader's Eden Ng Hok-ming. 'In the past we still had bands such as Beyond, but now there are almost no bands at all around town.'
Ng says he has been to many local shows to select potential talent. 'In fact some of the bands are very innovative,' he says. 'It would be a waste if people cannot hear their music.'
Signal Spreader has signed five-piece J-rock band Utopia and also plans to organise regular band shows every month. Ng hopes that by working on various styles of music, the bands will be able to generate a fresh image to the audience. Check out Signal Spreader's Web site at www.signalspreader.com. There'll be plenty of local indie talent for Signal Spreader to check out at the U Sound Festival 2001's Final Show, which will be held on Wednesday (April 4) at Ko Shan Theatre. Don't miss the chance to catch this showcase of university bands, plus guest bands Cry and Hann led by Paul Wong. Tickets are available at all Urbtix outlets, priced $80 and $60 (Tel: 2734 9009).
