A visit to a pen pal and his two puppies turned into a rape ordeal for a 20-year-old woman, a jury was told yesterday.
The alleged victim came to know Peter Choi Chun-sing, 22, through letter-writing in January 1998 and they subsequently became 'sworn brother and sister'.
She even introduced her boyfriend to Choi, who has pleaded not guilty to rape, and the three would sometimes go out together, prosecutor Grace Chan told the Court of First Instance.
Opening the case, Ms Chan said the woman had not seen Choi for about five months before the alleged offence, said to have taken place on July 13, 2000.
That evening, Choi telephoned her at about 6.15pm, telling her he had just moved to a new home and had two puppies. He asked if she wanted to visit him, Ms Chan said.
'The victim loved puppies and as she hadn't seen the defendant for some time she accepted his invitation,' the prosecutor said.
She met Choi at the Shau Kei Wan MTR station and he took her to a building in Factory Street where he rented a room on the third floor.
