A MAN who claimed he did not have to pay for two fritters from a congee shop because he was a triad member assaulted a shop assistant, the District Court heard yesterday.
Yuen Keung, 28, pleaded not guilty to one count each of theft and claiming to be a triad member.
Yuen and his co-defendants Chong Wan-hung, 33, and Ng Ying, 28, are charged with wounding Lau Wah-chung with intent and wounding policeman Luen Kam-man.
The offences allegedly occurred on January 13, 1992, at a shop in Lockhart Road, Wan Chai. The defendants have pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Prosecuting counsel Anthony Chan said Yuen entered the shop with another man. Yuen took two fritters and walked away.
Mr Lau, a shop assistant, asked them to pay.
