THE gentrification of Lan Kwai Fong continues apace. According to the Zeman Plan (named after its prime instigator, the street's real estate baron Allan Zeman) for every restaurant or night spot to open, an art gallery will bloom. Yesterday, it was the turn of the Galerie La Vong, owned by Shirley Hui, which opened its doors with French Consul-General Laurent Aublin officiating. And with the Gauls being pretty snobbish when it comes to matters cultural, the presence of Monsieur Aublin gave the street the aesthetic recognition it deserves. Incidentally, the new gallery is situated on the 13th floor of Zeman's landmark No 1 Lan Kwai Fong tower, where, it is whispered, the landlord is fixing himself a splendiferous triplex pad on top to add to his brick and mortar collection.
