Beautiful weather and a new venue provided a perfect environment for Ma On Shan Tsung Tsin Secondary School's 11th annual sports day. The two-day meet was held at the new Ma On Shan Sports Ground in Sha Tin. Hundreds of eager athletes took part in the events. The enthusiastic cheerleaders from the different houses kept the atmosphere festive. In her opening speech, principal Louise Law Yi-shu said: 'Having triumph in sight is what motivates students in the dark hours of toilsome practice.' Green House emerged as the winners. The top athletes were Hung Ching of Form 2B and Cheng Kin-sang of Form 1A. Ching set a record in the girls' Grade C long jump with a leap of 4.27 metres. She also won the girls' Grade C 100 m and shot put and led the winning 4 x 100 m team. Cheng won the boys' Grade C 100 m, 200 m and high jump, and was a member of the win ning 4 x 100 m and 4 x 400 m teams. Other records included Grade A discus by Sung Ka-ling (Form 5E) with a toss of 20.56 m. Yeung On-sum (Form 5D) and Ching Man-yan (Form 5C) broke the record in Grade A javelin with throws of 17.86 m and 15.38 m. Guest-of-honour Tsui Chi- wing, chief development officer (Sha Tin) of the Education Department, summed up the spirit of the meet, telling students not to be conceited when they win and not to be depressed when they fail.
