The first time I looked at the giant Buddhist statues in Bamiyan on television, I was enthralled. After reading more articles about Bamiyan, I could imagine how beautiful, magnificent the statues would be. However, I do not think that I will be able to go there and see the statues. Statues and frescos built more than 2,000 years ago are valuable and need to be cherished and preserved. They are cultural treasures left by Afghanistan's wise ancestors. If you really worship your gods from the bottom of your heart, it is enough. Destroying Buddhist statues does not mean you are the most sincere follower of Islam. I am deeply disappointed with the rulers. They have not shown due respect for the minorities and their culture. People with liberal opinions and religious tolerance should take joint action to develop the country. This would benefit the country as well as the whole world. It is better that everyone concerned act with restraint and consider the matter wisely rather than use violence. Andrea is a student at Kit Sam Lam Bing Yim Secondary School
