A number of Chinese Government Web sites were defaced by hackers last weekend.

Seven sites were reportedly defaced on Saturday by a group of hackers called the Silver Lords. The sites had their index pages replaced by a text message announcing the nickname of the hacker responsible and followed by the message 'SAVE KASHMIR!!! Contact us at silverlords@yahoo.com.'
One of the sites affected, the Chongqing Municipal Construction Commission at www.ccc.gov.cn, was still displaying a 'Free Kashmir' message yesterday afternoon.

China's bad weekend is far from an unusual event however. According to a report presented to the United States House of Representatives and armed forces last month, 715 Web sites belonging to the US military were defaced by hackers last year.
