If China succeeds, the world will award a huge propaganda victory to the butchers of Tiananmen and, much more pertinently in this case, a regime which routinely holds public execution rallies in sports stadiums, the victims of which are often only relatively minor criminals such as thieves, embezzlers and smugglers.
I am dumbfounded by the collective amnesia and wilful blindness which characterise the West's attitude to China these days.
