SEAPOWER went out of Hongkong's Super Commercial Cup despite overturning a 12-point deficit to beat Shanghai Frankwell 86-62 at Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai last night. It was their second victory against one defeat, the same record as Seasonal and Frankwell. But it was Seasonal who won the round-robin group ahead of Frankwell, whom they beat 83-79 last night. In the semi-finals of the L A Gear-sponsored tournament Seasonal meet the second-placed team in Group B - either Great Wall or Burlingame, who play tonight. Seapower trailed Shanghai 22-34 at half-time but turned on the power after the interval. Their hopes were dashed when Seasonal beat Frankwell, both teams edging Seapower on points difference. In Game Five of their six-match challenge series, meanwhile, China moved within one win of a whitewash of Team America after their 98-89 victory in Singapore last night. The Americans have one more chance to salvage their pride when the series closes in Hongkong on Saturday. Team America's Hongkong-based president Jerry Barisano admitted underestimating the recently crowned East Asian Games champions at the outset. The Chinese, playing superb defence, held only a 24-13 lead after the first quarter but then blitzed the touring American professionals in the second quarter to lead 54-36 at the half-way mark. That lead was whittled down as the Americans chipped away with points of their own while tightening their defensive effort. But with nine minutes left former Houston Rockets forward Lewis Lloyd fouled out, depleting their attack. Still Team America were in striking distance, six points down with four minutes left when they blew three lay-up chances. ''I thought we were going to catch them tonight but we made some stupid, bonehead plays at the end. Now we want to go out with a win in Hongkong,'' said Barisano.
