Fired general in demand
New York (April 12): Over 2,000 Longshoremen walked off their Manhattan waterfront work for two hours to-day in protest against General Douglas MacArthur's dismissal.
They marched to a small park and roared approval of a telegram to be sent to President Truman asking him to restore General MacArthur to his commands.
The demonstrators carried signs saying:
'Who runs the USA - Harry or Attlee?' and 'He is not selling shirts - he is selling us' (Mr Truman was once a haberdasher).
Fort Myers (April 13): General MacArthur will go to work as a director of Remington Rand Corporation within the next 90 days, Mr James A. Rand, the firm's President, said last night.
Mr Rand refused to comment on reports that General MacArthur's salary would be $100,000 yearly.
