I refer to the letter by Jeffry Kuperus headlined 'Not a fair cop' (South China Morning Post, March 24).
Mr Kuperus complains that police officers in Hong Kong seem to spend too much time dealing with traffic violators and not enough time dealing with other law enforcement issues.
A casual glance through the Hong Kong Police Web page reveals that officers are specifically deployed for traffic matters. Their job would seem to be the enforcement of traffic laws, whilst other officers are deployed for other duties, such as, for example, beat patrol, or criminal investigation. I also think that he might find that traffic wardens give out most of the parking tickets, which is actually their job.
I wonder if Mr Kuperus would still be complaining if he was involved in a traffic accident, caused partly by his speeding. Me thinks not.
